Fire Protection for Structural Steel

Under the Ninth Schedule of the UBBL 1984 (Amendment 2021), structural steel must be protected against fire exposure, as steel can rapidly lose its load-bearing capacity at elevated temperatures. Intumescent coatings are one of the most effective passive fire protection solutions available.

How It Works

Intumescent coating is applied directly to exposed structural steel surfaces during or after construction.

Upon exposure to heat, the coating reacts and expands up to 50× its thickness, forming a thick insulating char layer.

The char insulates the steel, preventing rapid temperature rise and maintaining structural integrity during a fire.
